There was a raging waterfall in the Dana Point Harbor during the recent storms. Many people drove down to the Harbor to take videos and pictures of this rare sight. You can either take the short walk to stand right up next to it, or just simply sit in your car and enjoy it. The catch is that you have to go while it’s raining or just afterwards because it quickly downgrades to a trickle and then dries up. If you miss it this time, take a drive down there the next time a rainstorm comes through. The tropical setting with palm trees and lush landscape surrounding it makes you feel like you’re in Hawaii.
Getting there: Once you turn onto Dana Point Harbor Drive from Pacific Coast Highway, park at Baby Beach in the harbor and look across the road at the falls. Pay attention to parking restrictions along the road and don’t get too close to the water when it has a strong flow. It can be dangerous.
Enjoy the sunshine for now but the next time a storm comes through, head down to the harbor to take a closer look at this man made waterfall right in our very own backyard.
Greetings Dana Point Community!
We just had some visitors in the neighborhood and wanted to share some pictures we received in case you didn’t get a chance to see them. The Ocean Institute had a couple tall ships visiting the Dana Point Harbor from January 1st-15th. Families, kids and history buffs had fun exploring and learning all about the ships and their crew. Now that they have sailed away, we hope the whale watching cruises will see a lot of grey whales that migrate during this time of year from Baja California to Alaska.
For more information and to book a cruise soon check out http://www.ocean-institute.org/event/whale-watching-cruise
We hope you are enjoying the new year thus far and happy 2017!
The Strand community gathered at The Beach Club to celebrate the holidays at its annual party on Wednesday evening, December 14th. Friends and family enjoyed fabulous food, libations, music and entertainment. Dana Point’s Craft House and our very own gate guard, Eddie, catered the event. Eddie delivered Michigan-style country barbecue ribs and chicken. Blake Mellgren, a Strand resident and Craft House owner, served an array of holiday appetizers. The Craft House was voted one of Orange County’s best restaurants for 2016.
Chase Perkowski and Alex Davis provided the exceptional guitar music and vocals. Later in the evening, The Orange County Festival Ballet Theater performed a vignette from the Nutcracker which dazzled audiences at the OC Performing Arts Center this season. It was magnificent to see such graceful and talented dancers with the moonlit ocean in the background.
There was a lot to celebrate this year as the Strand welcomed many new families to our coastal community. We have really enjoyed getting to know everyone. It was so much fun seeing our friends at the holiday celebration this year and we look forward to having many more events to bring us all together in the new year!
55 Strand Beach Drive (homesite 45) just sold for $10,000,000. The 11,270 sq. ft. homesite brings the total number of December to September 2015/1016 sales to just over $120 million. There are nine remaining homesites for sale at The Strand. The new owners said one of the many advantages of building at The Strand is the opportunity to build a custom beach home in the architectural style of their choice. They also appreciated that all California Coastal Commission approvals are in place and the expedited Design Review and City building permit approval process.
The newly remodeled Monarch Beach Resort (formerly the St. Regis) hosted The Stand at Headlands’ August 31st Wine Down Wednesday. Strand owners and their friends and family enjoyed selection of delicious wines by Eleven Eleven Winery from Napa Valley and an array of scrumptious seafood and amazing appetizers from the Resort’s Aveo Table + Bar. Chase Perkowski and Alex Davis provided the fabulous live music. We’ll keep you posted for the date our next Wine Down event.
