She sailed from Boston loaded with New England’s manufactured goods to participate in the Alta California hide trade. When she arrived along the Dana Point Headlands Coast, the Pilgrim sold or traded her New England wares, then procured hides from the San Juan Capistrano Mission and Rancheros be taken back to Boston. Today’s Pilgrim entered Dana Point Harbor in September 1981, and has become the Ocean Institute’s largest classroom. Today, the Pilgrim provides a national award-winning living history.
